Ayam Ungkep

I have been wondering how was this ayam ungkep taste first when I saw this in Anawahid's blog, I did asked her is it something like ayam lemak padi?...cause of the colour...then as noted  it is something like rendang procedure..only thing this dish used mostly spices that gives a nice aroma when cooking and its nice to eat it with sayur lodeh and ketupat..

It is actually a Javanese dish that is popular in Muar..(this is what I read) among the Javanese populations there..Anyway back to this is really a nice menu and Hasif agreed!..Never regretted trying Anawahid, (her recipe is here) which she got from Hana and before that from Fidadaud..I took some part of the recipe from you and combine with the one that I've got from here..Memang PASS!!!.. BUK!!

1 whole chicken (cut to preference and washed with lime juice to get rid of smell marinate chicken with salt and MSG)
3 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp fennel powder
11/2 tbsp cumin
*2 big onions minced
*4 garlics minced
*1 inch fresh turmeric roots minced
2 lemon grass crushed
1 turmeric leaf sliced coarsely
2 potatoes cut to wedges -fried first and put aside
1 tbsp sugar
1 dried tamarind pulp
1 big onion sliced in rings(optional)
salt to taste
water to estimate

Heat oil and saute minced ingredients and add in lemongrass, turmeric leaf, cumin, fennel and coriander powder and stir till fragrant. Add in chicken and stir well. When all the mixture has been incorporated, add in salt and sugar. Add in water and dried tarmarind pulp. Close lid and let it simmer till the chicken is cooked. Let it till the gravy is a bit thick. Add in ring onions and potatoes. Ready.
